Humane Animal Society (HAS) is a animal welfare trust run by Mini Vasudevan and Madhu, a couple from Coimbatore. HAS runs a home for protecting stray animals from cruelty in the city.
HAS has planned to celebrate their 10th year anniversary by host a fundraising musical concert 'Ganamela' at PSG College of Arts and Science on January 29th from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm with Padmashri, K.S.Chitra as the chief guest for the event.
Yesterday, a group of lawyers in the city have jointly filed a petition to the Commissioner of Police, A. Amalraj seeking a ban of HAS's fund-raising concert.
The petition states that, 'HAS works hand-in-hand with PETA, the organisation behind the whole Jallikattu issue. HAS has planned to conduct a fund-raising concert on 29th January by selling tickets worth Rs. 2500, Rs. 5000 to the public. HAS plans to use the funds so collected towards anti-Jallikattu campaign and to file a case against Jallikattu. The people of this city have striven hard to release the ban on Jallikattu. Hence, using these people's money to create a campaign against Jallikattu is highly condemnable'.
Citing these allegations, the lawyers have sought a ban on the concert. Reacting to the allegations and petition, HAS has officially announced that the event has been postponed and that their organisations have been baselessly alleged by a few advocates. And, soon HAS will plan an appropriate re-course on the petition.
