Tackling the emerging water crisis has become the most challenging task to the residents and the corporation. The city of Coimbatore has not witnessed a water crisis of this magnitude in the past 140 years. At all the 100 wards, disbursement of water has been made universal. Every ward will get drinking water 12 days once, almost bi-monthly.
In this connection a review meeting was convened at the corporation office. The meeting was chaired by Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan, Commissioner, CCMC. During the meeting he discussed with the officials on some important guidelines to be followed to manage the water crisis in the city.

'People have to use water very efficiently during the up-coming months as drought has struck the city. The residents should co-operate with the corporation to tackle the water crisis. For wards 15,18,19.20,21 of west zone, which comes under the siruvani distribution zone of the corporation will be henceforth supplied water only through lorries on a every day basis. Two lorries for each ward, so ten lorries for all the five wards will be disbursed through lorries. Similarly, for areas in Kuruchi, Selvapuram and Kuniamuthur, 2 lorries of drinking water will be distributed. For areas under the north Zone, one lorry of water will be disbursed.
In some areas, people use motor pumps to suck water from the pipelines thereby hindering universal supply of water to all residents. Hence, it is been decided to cut the power during the water disbursement time. Soon, Pilloor water will be supplied to all areas as at present interlinking of pipes are in process. Hence, people are advised to understand the situation and act responsibly by using water efficiently'.
Special officer also advised the engineers to attend to any water pipeline leakage issues/complaints on priority.
P.Gandhimathi, Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Executive Engineers from all the zones of Coimbatore corporation, and engineers who are in charge of water distribution and corporation officials took part in this meeting.
