Coimbatore: District Collector GS Sameeran has asked people to celebrate Vinayagar Chaturthi, as per the guidelines issued by the Central Pollution Control Board and celebrate the festival in an environmentally safe manner,

As per the guidelines, Vinayagar idols should be made out of permitted materials like clay, and during the immersion ceremony, they should be handled in a safe manner and immersed in only designated water bodies.

Natural products and colourants should be used to paint and decorate the idols. People should desist from using environmentally hazardous materials, the Collector noted.

He added that for painting the idols, no poisonous and inorganic materials should be used, but only natural dyes should be used in their place.

The sanctified idols should be taken in a procession and immersed only in designated water bodies identified by the district administration.

The Collector noted that people should ensure not to pollute the water bodies which are our water sources and home for various aquatic creatures.
