1000 staff in ration shops handed transfer order in Coimbatore district

In a shocking move, 1000 ration shop staff were handed transfer orders in Coimbatore district on complaints of abuse of power.

Coimbatore: There are 1,423 ration shops in Coimbatore district. Over a 1000 vendors who had been working in these stores for the past three years were drastically reshuffled and handed transfer orders.

All staff in ration shops except women's self-help stores were relocated. This has caused a stir in the region and some have demanded that they be relocated to their previous stores. But the ration shops have reportedly refused to do so. It is alleged that transfers were made after a public allegation of abuse of power by the ration shop staff.

Those who have had complaints against them and have not been prosecuted in the past few years have been transferred and will be investigated. The Coimbatore district administration has ordered the Supply Division Department and the Flying Squad to inspect the operations in the stores after the employees are relocated. They have been ordered to conduct raids and identify non-ration card holders, brokers and counterfeit buyers who visit these ration shops. The Supplies Division has also been directed to take necessary steps to prevent smuggling and investigate public complaints.
