Election Commission issues guidelines to officials handling vote counting adhere to Covid protocol on May 2


Coimbatore: Even as vote counting for the Assembly elections is to be held on Sunday, May 2, votes registered in Tamil Nadu will be counted on Sunday, May 2nd after which results will be announced.

The Election Commission has imposed various restrictions and issued guidelines to be followed with regard to counting of votes on May 2.

The guidelines are as follows:

The Election Commission has ordered that Covid test results be shown by officials handling vote counting, before they enter the vote counting centre.

The District Election Officer must ensure compliance with Covid restrictions at the counting centre.

The Covid test should be taken by officials 48 hours before the start of the count to make sure no one is carrying any infection.

The EC has advised that a certificate of vaccination done in two doses be shown.

It is also advised to prepare the list of officers, candidates and agents going to the counting centre three days in advance.

During the counting of votes, the Election Commission has banned even public outside the center.

The Election Commission has directed the State election officials to formulate a formal plan adhering these guidelines.

The Election Commission has warned that legal action will be taken against violators of these guidelines.
