317 candidates have filed nominations for assembly elections in Coimbatore


Coimbatore: Yesterday was the last day for filing nominations to contest the assembly elections and 130 people filed nominationsfor assembly elections in Coimbatore. In total, 317 candidates have filed nominations in 10 constituencies.

With the Assembly elections set to take place on April 6, nominations are being received from March 12in all 10 Assembly constituencies in the Coimbatore district. Major parties like AIADMK, DMK, BJP, Congress, Makkal Neethi Maiam, Naam Tamilar Party candidates have filed nominations and are engaged in intense campaigning. As many as 187 candidates had filed nominations in all the 10 assembly constituencies in Coimbatore district till yesterday. On the last day for filing nominations total of 17 in Mettupalayam, 10 in Sulur, 11 in Kavundampalayam, 11 in Coimbatore North, 20 in Thondamuthur, 16 in Coimbatore South, 16 in Singanallur, 13 in Kinathukkadavu, 12 in Pollachi and 4 in Valparai. A total of 317 candidates have filed nominations in 10 constituencies in the district. Nomination review will take place tomorrowand March 22is the last day to withdraw nominations.

Out of 10 constituencies in Coimbatore district, a maximum of 39 have filed petitions in Thondamuthur constituency. At least 15 candidates have filed nominations in Valparai. Mettupalayam 36, Sulur 25, Kavundampalayam 27, Coimbatore North 35, Coimbatore South 33, Singanallur 38, Kinathukadavu 33 and Pollachi 36 are contesting.
