Prime Minister flagged off the world's first electric-powered 1.5 km long freight train


Prime Minister flagged off the world's first electric-powered 1.5 km long freight train. Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated a 306 km long Rewari Madar section of the Western dedicated Freight corridor to the nation through a video conference.

The Prime Minister then flagged off the world's first electric double-decker 1.5- km long freight train. It can carry an additional load of 25 tons by operating a double decker train. It was designed by RDSO's Rail Box Department for DFCCIL.

This double decker train was capable of carrying four times as many containers as the current Indian Railways. DFCCIL operates freight trains at a maximum speed of 100 kmph. At present, freight trains run at a maximum speed of 75 kmph on Indian Railways.

The event was attended by the Governors and Chief Ministers of Rajasthan and Haryana, and Union Ministers Piyush Goyal.
