Pongal benefits worth Rs 270 crores distributed in Coimbatore district: Minister SP Velumani.


Coimbatore: Minister SP Velumani said that pongal benefits worth Rs 270 crores were being distributed in Coimbatore district. Minister SP Velumani yesterday inaugurated clinics under the Department of Public Health at Kannappan Nagar, Ratnapuri, Coimbatore. He then donated Rs 2,000 worth of health and nutrition kits to the pregnant women.

Under the Pongal gift package scheme, 10, 11,865 rice family card holders in Coimbatore district will get one kg of raw rice, sugar and 20 grams of cashew nuts, raisins, cardamom, a full cane and a cash package of Rs 2,500 that is to be distributed from January 4 to 13.

He said, "In Coimbatore district, Pongal gift package worth Rs 16.87 crores is to be given and cash ofRs. 2,500 for each worth Rs 252.96 crore will be distributed. The total value of package is Rs 269.83 crore."
