Liquor shops to be open from May 4 in all zones, except containment areas

Coimbatore: The Centre on Saturday has clarified that liquor and tobacco shops can resume operations in all districts irrespective of red, orange and green zones. However, certain restrictions depending upon thecontainment areas will be imposed. The new rules will be applicable from May 4 onwards.

After announcing the extending of nationwide lockdown for another two weeks, the Ministry of Home Affairs has permitted liquor and tobacco shops to open again in all zones.

However, liquor and tobacco shops inside malls or shopping complexes will remain closed.

The government has urged the shop keepers to maintain social distancing.

The earlier announcement by the centre on Friday regarding opening of liquor shops created confusion, as there was no clarification if the order was applicable to all zones or only orange and green zones.
