Tamil Nadu Government announces three days holiday for Diwali this year

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Government has declared October 28 as a public holiday, on account of Diwali.


Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Government has declared October 28 as a public holiday, on account of Diwali.

With Diwali being celebrated on October 27, the State government has been receiving requests to announce the day after Diwali as a holiday so that people can visit their hometowns to celebrate Diwali. Following the request, the Government of Tamil Nadu has announced October 28 as a public holiday.

In a statement issued by the State Government on the same, the Government has declared October 28 as a public holiday for schools, colleges and Government offices. To compensate for this extra holiday, the Government has announced November 9, the second Saturday of the month as a working day.

Festive holidays this year for Diwali will thus encompass three days, from October 26 (Saturday) to October 28 (Monday).
