Traffic diversion announced in the city on October 8 2019

Coimbatore: The annual Parakathi procession of Sri Ramalinga Sowdambikai Amman Temple celebrated by the Telugu Devanga Chettiar community is scheduled to take place in October 8, this year. Owing to which, the traffic police have announced traffic diversions on the first half of October 8.


Coimbatore: The annual Parakathi procession of Sri Ramalinga Sowdambikai Amman Temple celebrated by the Telugu Devanga Chettiar community is scheduled to take place in October 8, this year. Owing to which, the traffic police have announced traffic diversions on the first half of October 8. 

While one of the procession will commence at 5.30 am in the junction connecting Ramachandra Road and Sir Shanmugam road in RS Puram and will culminate at the temple located in Raja Street by 9.30 am via Mettupalayam Road, Poo Market, Sukarwarpet junction, Mill Road, Oppankara Street.

Likewise, the new Sri Ramalinga Sowdeshwari Sowdamman Temple procession will be held on the same day, October 8 at morning 6.30 am from Vinayagar Temple near Raja Annamalai road, Sai Baba Colony, and will reach the temple located in Devangapettai by 10.00 am via Alagesan Road, Mettupalayam Road and VCV Road. 

The traffic diversions are as follows:

1) When the first procession begins at 5.30 am, all vehicles plying from Sukrawarpet to Poomarket should use the Gandhi Park, DB Road, Cowley Brown Road and reach Mettupalayam (MTP) Road to go to their respective destinations.

2) When the procession reaches Ramachandra road, all vehicles that ply from MTP Road to Poomarket can go via Shanmuga Theater Road and reach Brookebond Road and go to their respective destinations. 

3) When the procession reaches Sukrawarpet, the vehicles that ply from the old bridge to Sukrawarpet can take a left turn from Marakkadai and go via Townhall, Vysyal Street, Sullivan Street and reach Gandhipark. 

4) The vehicles from Perur Road, Chetti Veedhi, Selvapuram and Raja Street are advised to take a right turn from Shivalaya junction and Selvapuram High School Road and take Ukkadam Bypass Road to reach Ukkadam from where they can use the tollgate road of heavy vehicles to reach Classic Tower, Trichy Road to go to their destinations.

5) And, light vehicles can use the Sungam Bypass Road - Y road Junction and reach Big Bazaar Street via Vincent Road and from the Royal Theater route to go to their destination.

6) All vehicles plying from Ukkadam to Oppanakara Street can use Sungam Bypass - Classic Tower to reach the Railway Station and from there, can go to their destination.

The traffic diversion during the procession of Sri Ramalinga Sowdeshwari Puthu Sowdamman temple are as follows: 

1) When the procession reaches Alagesan Road - MTP Road, the vehicles plying from NSR Road and MTP Road to North Coimbatore will be diverted via Sivananda colony via ARC Junction and then go to their respective destinations.

2) The vehicles plying from Poomarket to MTP can take a left turn to Avinashilingam College Road to reach Bharathi Park road 4, NSR Road to go to MTP Road.

3) When the procession reaches RG Street, the vehicles plying from Sukarwarpet to Poomarket, can go to Gandhipark, D.B Road, Cowley Brown Road from Sukrawarpet and reach MTP Road to go to their destination.

4) When the procession reaches VCV Road, the vehicles plying from Brookebond Road, Devangapettai Road can skip taking the right turn and take a straight route to Brookebond Road and reach the old bridge to go to their destination.

Meanwhile, all customers and shop owners on the procession route are requested not to park their vehicles in front of the shops hindering the procession. 

The city traffic police department have asked the public to cooperate and adhere to the temporary traffic diversion announced.
