A 22-year-old youth arrested in connection with the alleged sale of ganja in Coimbatore has been detained under the Goondas Act following an order issued by the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner.
Coimbatore: A 22-year-old youth arrested in connection with an alleged ganja sale case has been detained under the Goondas Act following an order issued by Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Dr. N. Kannan.
According to Police, Guru Balaji, 22, was arrested on August 17, 2026, in connection with a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
Police said the accused was allegedly involved in the sale of ganja near a bridge on a road leading to a private school within the limits of the R.S. Puram police station. He was arrested in the case and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
Based on the recommendations of the R.S. Puram police inspector and the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Range, the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner ordered action against the accused under the Goondas Act.
The police said the detention order was issued as part of action against those involved in drug-related offences in the city.
