Dhanvanth, a one-year-old child, died after he allegedly fell into an underground water sump near his house in Rathinapuri, Coimbatore, which had been temporarily covered with a metal sheet. Rathinapuri police are investigating the incident.
Coimbatore: Residents of V.O.C. Nagar in Rathinapuri were left grieving after a one-year-old boy allegedly drowned in a water sump at his residence in Coimbatore.
The deceased was identified as Dhanvanth (1), son of Venugopal and Kalaivani. According to the police, the child was playing outside the house when he accidentally fell into the sump, which had been temporarily covered with a metal sheet.
After the child was found missing, his parents searched for him and later found him inside the sump. With the help of neighbours, they pulled him out and rushed him to a nearby hospital.
However, doctors declared the child dead on arrival.
On receiving information, Rathinapuri police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and further investigation is under way.
