CM Vijay Lauds Bravery of Coimbatore Cop Who Rode Atop Fleeing Car for 40 Km to Nab Gutka Smugglers

Coimbatore: In recognition of his exceptional courage and commitment to duty, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay personally appreciated Head Constable Velmurugan of Kovilpalayam Police Station for his daring role in preventing a gutka smuggling attempt during a dramatic 40-km police chase.
On September 27, Head Constable 456 Velmurugan displayed extraordinary courage by climbing onto the roof of a car carrying gutka and remaining there for nearly 40 km as the vehicle attempted to flee. Determined to prevent the accused from escaping, he continued to hold on until coordinated police action brought the vehicle to a halt near Avinashi.
Three persons were arrested in connection with the incident. Police also seized 231 kg of gutka and the car used to transport the banned tobacco products.
Recognising his courage, presence of mind and dedication to duty, Chief Minister Vijay personally called Velmurugan and conveyed his appreciation and congratulations for his courageous act.
The Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu, also personally appreciated and congratulated the head constable for his exemplary courage and commitment to duty.
Velmurugan’s bravery and dedication to duty have earned widespread appreciation across the nation.
