Daring 40-Km Car Chase: Senior Police Officials Applaud Kovilpalayam Constable Velmurugan’s Courage

Coimbatore: Kovilpalayam Police seized approximately 170 Kgs of Gutka and arrested three persons near Mangalam Pirivu, Avinashi, following a dramatic 40 km chase in which a head constable climbed onto the roof of the fleeing vehicle to prevent the accused from escaping.
Acting on tip-off,SI Vignesh and HC 456 Velmurugan of Kovilpalayam Police Station attempted to intercept the suspected vehicle in the Vilankurichi area. However, the occupants refused to stop and sped towards Avinashi in an attempt to evade the police.
During the interception attempt, HC 456 Velmurugan displayed exceptional courage and commitment to duty by climbing onto the top of the fleeing vehicle. Despite the vehicle continuing to travel at high speed, he held onto its roof and travelled in the highly dangerous position for nearly 40 km, determined to prevent the accused from escaping.
Meanwhile, the incident was immediately communicated to the concerned police units, and alerts were passed to Tiruppur and Coimbatore City Police. With coordinated assistance from police personnel, the National Highway Patrol and a nearby ambulance driver, the fleeing vehicle was eventually intercepted near Mangalam Pirivu, Avinashi.
The police secured Babudhara (27), Rajesh Kumar (23) and Suresh Kumar (23), all natives of Rajasthan, and seized approximately 170 Kgs of Gutka and a Creta car bearing Regn. No. KA 05 NG 7692 from their possession.
During enquiry, it was learnt that the Gutka had been purchased from an unidentified person at Electronic City, Bengaluru. Further investigation is underway to identify the source of the contraband and other persons involved in the illegal supply network.
The courage and commitment to duty displayed by the Kovilpalayam Police were highly appreciated by the senior police officers.
