Water Levels Rise in Coimbatore District Dams Due to Southwest Monsoon

Water levels have increased in Aliyar, Parambikulam, and Solayar dams in Coimbatore district due to the southwest monsoon. As of July 24, Aliyar dam stands at 55.5 feet, Parambikulam at 22.37 feet, and Solayar at 71.85 feet. Water is being continuously discharged from all three dams.


Coimbatore: Water levels in major dams located in Anaimalai, Pollachi, and Valparai areas of Coimbatore district have risen significantly due to the southwest monsoon. Water Resources Department officials have released details of the current water levels and inflow as of July 24.

Aliyar dam, located near Anaimalai, has a full capacity of 120 feet. Due to continuous rainfall in the catchment areas, the water level stands at 55.5 feet as of July 24. The dam is currently receiving an inflow of 239 cubic feet per second. Water discharge from the dam is 250 cubic feet per second.

Parambikulam dam, located near Pollachi, has a full capacity of 72 feet. With the southwest monsoon continuing, water inflow from the catchment areas has increased. The water level has risen to 22.37 feet as of July 24. The dam is recording an inflow of 1098 cubic feet per second. Water discharge from the dam is 40 cubic feet per second.

Sholayar dam, located in the Valparai area, has a full capacity of 160 feet. Due to rainfall in the catchment areas, the water level stands at 71.85 feet as of July 24. The dam is recording an inflow of 276 cubic feet per second. A significant amount of water, 1384 cubic feet per second, is being discharged from the dam, Water Resources Department officials stated.




With the southwest monsoon continuing steadily, water levels in all three dams are rising gradually. Officials have advised farmers and residents in downstream areas to remain alert.
