Nirmala, a resident of Coimbatore, found Rs. 50,000 on the road and handed it over to the police. After a search, the rightful owner was identified and the money was returned in a commendable act of honesty.

Coimbatore: In a heartening display of honesty, a woman from Coimbatore returned a lost sum of Rs. 50,000 to its rightful owner. The incident, which unfolded over the past few weeks, has been lauded by the city police.

Nirmala (41), a resident of Balaji Nagar in Siddapudur, Coimbatore, was on her routine morning walk with her mother Saradha on Balasundaram Road on September 22. During their walk, Nirmala noticed a bundle of cash amounting to Rs. 50,000 lying on the road. She waited for a while, hoping someone would come looking for the lost money. When no one appeared, Nirmala made the responsible decision to hand over the cash to Inspector Arjun at the Race Course Police Station.

Inspector Arjun promptly informed Police Commissioner Balakrishnan about the incident. Appreciating Nirmala's integrity, the Commissioner personally met her, praised her actions, and presented her with a certificate of appreciation. Meanwhile, the police initiated an investigation to find the rightful owner of the lost money.

After a thorough search, a man named Sebastian came forward with proof of ownership for the lost cash. On October 15, in a small ceremony at the Race Course Police Station, Inspector Arjun invited Nirmala to witness the return of the money to Sebastian, thus bringing the incident to a satisfactory conclusion.

This act of honesty by Nirmala has been widely appreciated in the community, setting an example of civic responsibility and ethical behavior.
