Bhavanipuzha Tehsildar Thwarts Illegal Encroachment Attempt by Coimbatore Residents on River Bank

Attapadi Taluk Tahsildar K. Mohan Kumar halted an illegal encroachment attempt on Bhavani river bank during a land survey ordered by the High Court, following an application by two Coimbatore natives.

Coimbatore: The Bhavanipuzha Tehsildar has successfully prevented an illegal encroachment attempt on the Bhavani river bank, following a land survey conducted on orders from the High Court. The survey was initiated after two Coimbatore natives, Rehana Bijoy and Deepa Padmanabhan, applied to measure and survey land adjacent to the Bhavani river.

K. Mohan Kumar, the Tehsildar of Attapadi Tribal Taluk, led the survey team in examining various documents, including parent documents, village officer reports, and records from the Taluk surveyor and A&B Registrar. The investigation revealed that Rehana Bijoy had attempted to illegally acquire approximately 5 hectares of poromboke land along the Bhavani river.

Officials discovered multiple sketches and attempts to sell land in the poromboke area. In response, the Tehsildar and other revenue officials cancelled all efforts to illegally acquire the land through the High Court's measuring order.

According to 1958 records, the disputed land is listed as possession land and is recorded in village documents as farmland under the name of Moopil Nair. The survey confirmed that the river bank boundary had not been crossed.

Rehana Bijoy, however, has claimed that the Land Registry Tehsildar refused to visit the site or check records after the application was submitted. She stated that they would approach the High Court against the Tehsildar for allegedly violating the court order.

The case highlights the ongoing challenges in land management and the importance of thorough investigations in preventing illegal encroachments on public lands and natural resources.
