TNAU Conducts One-Day Hands-on Training on Real-time PCR in Collaboration with BioRad

TNAU's Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology organized a one-day hands-on training on Real-time PCR for 57 post-graduate students and faculty members on August 30, 2024, in collaboration with BioRad, enhancing participants' practical knowledge in molecular biology.

Coimbatore: The Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore, in collaboration with BioRad, a leading biotechnology company, conducted a one-day hands-on training session on Real-time PCR (RT-PCR) on August 30, 2024. The training, held at the Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology, saw participation from 57 post-graduate students from various TNAU departments and several teaching faculty members.

The training aimed to provide participants with in-depth practical knowledge of Real-time PCR, an advanced molecular biology technique widely used in research and diagnostics. Expert professionals from BioRad led the session, demonstrating operational procedures, technical principles, and best practices involved in RT-PCR.

Participants gained hands-on experience with RT-PCR instruments and software, learning critical steps of sample preparation, amplification, and data interpretation. The BioRad experts also discussed troubleshooting strategies and optimization techniques for accurate and reproducible results.

Dr. Mohankumar, Project Director, highlighted the relevance of RT-PCR in real-world applications during his welcome speech. He emphasized its extensive use in agricultural research for plant pathogen detection, gene expression analysis, and genetic modification studies. The training also touched upon RT-PCR's pivotal role in Covid-19 detection and diagnosis.

Dr. N. Senthil, Director of the Center for Plant Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, remarked on the importance of such training sessions in equipping students and faculty with cutting-edge molecular techniques. He stated, "This training provides our students with valuable skills that will enhance their research capabilities, particularly in areas such as plant biotechnology and diagnostics."

The training concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Kokiladevi, Professor & Head, Department of Plant Biotechnology. The event marked a significant step in fostering industry-academia collaboration and empowering the next generation of scientists with crucial molecular biology skills.
