Coimbatore: Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) is set to revolutionize urban policing with the launch of an innovative e-trike designed by its students for the Coimbatore Traffic Police. The unveiling ceremony will take place at the Coimbatore Commissioner Office, marking a significant advancement in police patrolling methods.
The lightweight e-trike, weighing just 35 kg, is powered by a 720 Wh lithium ferro phosphate battery, offering a range of up to 30 km on a single charge. With a quick charging time of 2.5 hours, the trike ensures minimal downtime for police operations.
The trike's design prioritizes agility and comfort, featuring a dual suspension system on the rear wheels and a front shock absorber. Its compact dimensions of 0.68 meters in width and 0.80 meters in length make it ideal for navigating crowded urban spaces. The vehicle's maneuverability is further enhanced by a minimal turning radius of 5 feet and an embedded reverse mode.
Security features include RFID ignition and an in-built GPS system, ensuring authorized use and real-time tracking. The trike is also equipped with a Public Addressing (PA) system, facilitating effective communication during patrols.
Designed specifically for police patrolling in urban areas, pedestrian zones, residential neighborhoods, parks, and public event venues, the trike operates at a maximum speed of 12 kmph. Its ergonomic design and suspension system aim to reduce physical fatigue during long shifts.
The introduction of this e-trike represents a significant step towards modernizing police patrolling methods. Plans are in place to expand its usage across police departments throughout the state, potentially standardizing it as a primary vehicle for patrolling duties.
