Three arrested for kidnapping and robbing rice mill owner in Coimbatore's Peelamedu

A rice mill owner in Peelamedu, Coimbatore, was kidnapped, assaulted, and robbed by a gang of seven on July 28. Three suspects have been arrested, while four others are at large.


Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, three individuals have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping, assaulting, and robbing a rice mill owner in Peelamedu, Coimbatore. The victim, Jafar Sadiq (35), a resident of Anna Nagar in Ukkadam Lorry Pettai, was targeted by a gang of seven men on July 28.

According to police reports, Jafar Sadiq, who owns a rice mill in Peelamedu, had prior conflicts with a group involved in rice smuggling. On the day of the incident, Sadiq received a phone call asking him to come out of his house. Upon stepping out, he was confronted by two individuals who threatened him not to disclose information about their rice smuggling activities.

Shortly after, five more individuals arrived in a car. The gang verbally abused Sadiq, assaulted him, and forcibly kidnapped him in their vehicle. They drove to a secluded area behind a petrol bunk on Palakkad Road, where they tied Sadiq up with nylon rope and severely beat him.

The assailants then robbed Sadiq of Rs. 23,000 in cash and a mobile phone. Before leaving, they threatened to "finish him off" if he revealed any information about the rice smuggling operation. Following the ordeal, Sadiq filed a complaint with the Kuniyamuthur Police.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and conducted an investigation. They identified seven individuals involved in the kidnapping and assault, including Sikandar Basha (37) from Karumbukadai Saramedu, Tawfiq (39) from Coimbatore Pudhur, and Mohamed Asaruddin (35) from Karumbukadai Tipu Nagar. These three suspects have been arrested.

The police are currently searching for four other suspects: Zia, Zakir, Anwar, and Aziz, who are believed to be connected to the crime.
