Trade Unions Protest Against Criminal Law Name Change in Coimbatore

Central trade unions in Coimbatore staged a protest against the renaming of three criminal laws passed in the final session of Parliament, demanding their withdrawal and addressing labor concerns.

Coimbatore: Central trade unions in Coimbatore staged a protest on Monday (July 24) against the renaming of three criminal laws passed in the final session of Parliament. The demonstration, held near the Tatabad Power House area, was part of nationwide protests organized by trade unions opposing the Union government's anti-labor policies.

The protest was led by former MLA M. Arumugam and conducted under the banner of the Joint Action Committee of All Trade Unions. The demonstrators put forth several demands, including the withdrawal of the three renamed criminal laws and the reversal of amendments made to 44 labor welfare laws.

Key demands raised during the protest included:

1. Withdrawal of the three criminal laws passed in the final session of the 17th Lok Sabha

2. Reversal of amendments made to 44 labor welfare laws

3. Inclusion of trade union demands for labor welfare in the Union Budget

4. Ensuring minimum support prices for agricultural produce

Protesters raised slogans against the central government's alleged anti-labor policies and warned of continued agitations if their demands were not met. The trade unions emphasized the need to protect workers' rights and welfare in the face of what they perceive as unfavorable policy changes.

The demonstration in Coimbatore reflects the growing concern among labor organizations regarding recent legislative changes and their potential impact on workers' rights. As part of a broader national movement, the trade unions have vowed to continue their protests until their demands are addressed by the central government.
