A man held for sexual harassment in Selvapuram

Police arrested 26-year-old M. Murali of LIC Colony in Selvapuram for making obscene prank phone calls to many women in the city, including friends of his girlfriend.

The police said that a woman from Town Hall had lodged a complaint at the police commissioner’s office recently alleging that someone was making obscene and threatening calls from various mobile numbers. On the direction of the police commissioner, a special team began investigation. They learned that the calls were being made using the SIM cards that the caller obtained using fake identity proofs.

Meanwhile, the victim suspected the voice to be that of her friend’s lover Murali and informed the All Women Police Station (West). The police registered a case under sections of the IPC and sec. 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Women Harassment Act and arrested him.
