Coimbatore: The North American Spine Society (NASS) one of the most prestigious premier multidisciplinary medical organization representing more than 9000 members comprising of 67 countries has awarded Coimbatore's Ganga Hospital Spine Research Team, "Outstanding Research Award" for the year 2022.
With this award, the Spine research team of Ganga Hospital headed by Prof.Dr.S.Rajasekaran have set a new record by receiving the award from NASS for the fourth consecutive time.
A pioneering research in the field of spine surgery, the spine reasearch team of Ganga Hospital has been performing cutting-edge clinical and basic science research in the field of low back pain and spinal cord injuries. With more than 250 international research publications in highly acclaimed peer reviewed journals, the team have been the recipients of many national and international awards.
The research team led by Prof. Dr.S.Rajasekaran include Dr. Rishi Kanna, Dr.R. Karthick, Dr.Balavenkat Subramaniam and Dr. Ajoy Shetty.
The research paper that won the 2022 outstanding Research award is titled ‘"Peri-operative Analgesic Efficacy and Safety of Erector Spinae Plane Block in Posterior Cervical Spine Surgery – A Double-Blinded, Randomized Controlled Study"
"This paper speaks about post-operative pain relief of patients undergoing spine surgery in the neck. This is a double blinded randomised control study performed to find out the efficacy of post-operative pain relief by a novel method of erector spinae plane block.
Post-operative pain is a huge concern for both surgeons and patients alike and this new technique will be highly efficient in providing good pain relief and making the patient very comfortable and mobile soon after the surgery", said Dr S. Rajasekaran.
He added that the submissions are carefully vetted and evaluated by a panel of esteemed judges and the award winning research work will also be published in 'The Spine Journal' , the prestigious official journal of the society.
"NASS is dedicated to fostering and delivering the highest quality, evidence based ethical spine care by promoting education, research and advocacy. Every year NASS and 'The Spine Journal' offer an award of USD 10,000 to recognize excellence in unpublished spine research which are one of the most prestigious awards in spine surgery worldwide and is fiercely competed by researchers from all over the world", he added.
The authors of this research paper have been invited to present the same during the Annual meeting of NASS on 13th October 2022 in Chicago, USA.
