Panchayat President in Coimbatore alleges threats from 'dominant caste' councillors

The President of Mathvarayapuram panchayat has alleged that the 'dominant caste' councilors were threatening him, and obstructing him from performing his duties as he belongs to the tribal community.

Coimbatore: A Panchayat President has alleged that the councilors of the dominant caste have been threatening him.

The President of Mathvarayapuram Panchayat has alleged to the Collector stating the 'dominant caste' councilors were threatening him, and obstructing him from performing his duties as he belongs to the tribal community.

Kittusamy is the president of Mathvarayapuram Panchayat in the Coimbatore district. He has been working as a Panchayat President for two years in this constituency reserved for tribals. He has lodged a complaint with the District Collector seeking action against the upper caste councilors for preventing him from performing his official duties.

In his complaint, he alleged that four Councillors from the 'dominant caste' along with a Councillor from the tribal community including Councillors Murthy, Jothimani, Rani, Nagaraj, and Murugesh were preventing him from performing his duties, and obstructing him from holding meetings. Kittusamy also alleged that the five Councillors were threatening him to pay a certain amount every month, and were just looking to get back the 6 lakh rupees they had spent on the elections.

He claimed that these people were preventing sanitation workers, plumbers, and water suppliers from working. In his complaint, he alleged that he was unable to carry out basic and urgent work in panchayat and that the dominant Councillors were looking down upon him and are causing mental harassment.

The Panchayat head demanded immediate action on this issue, as the public was also being affected here.
