The District Collector GS Sameeran went on a bus trip with the government school students to the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, as part of the rejuvenation program, 'Coffee with Collector', a step to encourage the government school students who are visiting school after 2 years.
Coimbatore: The District Collector GS Sameeran went on a bus trip with the government school students to the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.
In order to encourage the students of government schools, a discussion program, Coffee with Collector was organized here in Coimbatore. The government school students along with the District Collector under the theme 'Polam Right' toured the important places of Coimbatore by bus.
The School Education Department of Tamil Nadu is taking various measures to encourage the government school students who have returned to schools after a gap of about two years.
As part of this, a discussion meeting was held with the Collector at the Collectorate auditorium titled 'Coffee with Collector'.
About 50 selected students of government schools participated in the meeting and posed questions to Coimbatore District Collector G S Sameeran.
A student asked the Collector what punishment would he give for crimes against women if he had become a judge.
The collector replied that he would definitely give whatever punishment can be given as per law. He also demanded stringent punishment for those involved in POCSO charges and grievances to be heard in the school itself, adding that the POCSO convicts have been arrested under the Goondas Act and detained for a year and he added that the district administration is creating awareness to put an end to these problems.
He said steps have been taken to prevent child marriages and based on the information, they are being questioned personally and awareness is being created. The Collector added that the major reason behind the government's opposition for NEET was that, the examinations held for Medical entrance should prioritize the competency of government school students, and only a low number of students are appearing for NEET.
He said ordinary students should study well and become doctors and do good things at every stage of their lives. He told the students that he had studied IAS after becoming a doctor and the idea to study further prevailed more after that.
Following this, he traveled with the students by bus to The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. Speaking to reporters, District Collector Sameeran said that such programs will be held every week as the event is well received by the students. He added that he will take the students to important places in Coimbatore to encourage them.
