It is shocking that the Water Resources Department has sent a notice to evict people who have been living in the Samalapuram area of Tirupur for more than a hundred years, said Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan.



Tirupur: Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan has expressed his support for the Arundhatiar community people who have been fighting for twelve days against the eviction notice.



Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan in an interview after meeting the people who have been fighting for 12 days in the Samalapuram area of Tirupur district against converting their place into ‘Nattham land’ and give them a proper lease where Arundhathi people have been living for more than a century.

There are more than 150 houses in the Arundhati Colony near the Samalapuram Karupparayan Temple in Tirupur District. It is home to more than 500 people. A few days ago, a notice was issued on behalf of the Public Works Department stating that the area inhabited by Arundhati people is a waterlogged area and that they should vacate their houses within 21-days.

For the 12th day in a row, residents of the Arunthathiyar Colony in Samalapuram have been carrying out a series of black flag protests against the eviction notice issued. A section of people may have lived in the area for three generations or nearly hundred years.



In this situation, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan and MP of Chidambaram spoke in support of the protesters. He also demanded that the people who have been living for more than three generations should be given a lease to convert the residential area into Nattham land and the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu should pay special attention to this matter and take appropriate action.

The event was attended by a large number of state and district executives of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).
