The CCMC Commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara has stated that the Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition System could be implemented in Coimbatore for distribution of drinking water
Coimbatore: The city corporation is in talks to implement a SCADA System for drinking water distribution.
'We are going to implement SCADA system (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) to handle water supply in Coimbatore', the Commissioner of Corporation of Coimbatore said.
Speculating if the drinking water supply issue continues with Siruvani (source) in Coimbatore, the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation Commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara said there was a possibility of drinking water problems during the summer. Water is being supplied to the residents of the Coimbatore Corporation area from Siruvani, Pillur dams, and Aliyar and Bhavani rivers.
He said 10.1 crore liters of water should be drawn daily from source Siruvani but since the Kerala government did not cooperate, only a part of stipulated amount of water is being brought to Tamil Nadu every day, which could lead to water scarcity in Coimbatore. Chief Minister Stalin, who visited Coimbatore in November, said the Corporation would be able to provide drinking water every two days, but there is a situation where this will not be possible and the CCMC Commissioner said,
'There is a shortage of water supply to corporation areas due to the Siruvani issue. Moreover, people close to the water tank get water for forty hours in a row.'
He added that a section of people who are in close proximity get water only once in 10 days. Coimbatore Corporation is able to supply water to one part of the Corporation once in 5 days, to some areas once in 15 days, and to some other areas once in 10 days. He added that the Corporation is going to implement the "SCADA System" for such water supply and have sent a report to the Government of Tamil Nadu to use meters for the system.
'Now we are waiting for technical permission and once we get permission, we will start the work immediately. We have already written to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on the Siruvani issue.'
