Valparai recorded the highest rainfall in Coimbatore district in the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday (August 25), with Chinnakallar receiving the highest rainfall of 101 mm. Cinchona and Sholayar recorded 68 mm each, followed by Valparai PAI with 67 mm and Valparai Taluk with 63 mm. The rainfall recorded at these locations was categorised as heavy rainfall.
The Siruvani catchment also received significant rainfall, with 30 mm recorded at Siruvani Foothills and 26 mm at the Siruvani Dam during the same period.
The rainfall has contributed to an increase in the water level of the Siruvani Dam, with the water depth currently standing at 27.35 feet, against its reported full level of 49.53 feet. The reservoir currently holds 255.54 million cubic feet (MCft) of useful storage.
Overall, Coimbatore district recorded an average rainfall of 24.15 mm, which was classified as moderate rainfall during the period.
