On occasion of International Women’s Day Mayor Kalpana speaks on women empowerment at function in Coimbatore

The International Women’s Day celebrations held at the government high school in Maniyakarampalayam and the Coimbatore Mayor, Kalapana Anandakumar addressed how women were empowered in the state in different eras, helping her stand as the first Woman Mayor of the city.


Coimbatore: Mayor Kalpana attended the International Women’s Day celebrations held at the government high school in Maniyakarampalayam.



International Women's Day function was held at Government Higher Secondary School, Maniyakaranpalayam, Coimbatore on 8th March 2022, Tuesday. Mayor Kalpana, Coimbatore Municipal Corporation chaired the event.

Kalpana Anandakumar, addressing the people there stated, “The veteran Dravidian leader, Arignar Anna’s constant efforts made education possible for women who were restricted to the kitchens and following his footsteps, Karunanidhi, former DMK President and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu gave equal rights to women in the family property. Now there is nothing that women cannot achieve.”

She said she was very happy to have taken over as the first woman Mayor of Coimbatore Corporation and said that girls should live with courage. She stated that she can be contacted any time, no matter what the issues, and pushed them to study well and achieve greater heights, serving the nation.



Following this, the Mayor distributed sanitary napkins to the girl students and Corona prevention equipment, including sanitizer, to the girls. The Mayor also congratulated Sabita, a class VIII student, and Dharani, a class 4 student, who topped the national-level Silambam competition held by the World Silambam Association in Chennai. The girls also performed for the Mayor.

Coimbatore Municipal Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal Sunkara, Deputy Mayor Vetriselvan, and other members were present on the occasion.
