Coimbatore: The Assistant Commissioner of Police of Saibaba Colony Range has been transferred to the Task Force in Sathyamangalam after he expressed objection to slogans against Godse.

Sukumaran, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Saibaba Colony is transferred toSathyamangalam, Task Force. Reportedly, Sukumaran, who was on duty during the pledge ceremony held on 30th January this year, on Gandhi’s Death Anniversary, objected to slogans against Godse.

On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's death anniversary, a pledge was held on behalf of The People's Unity Platform at the Sivananda Colony in Coimbatore. The event was attended by members of various organizations including Marxist Communist, TMTK, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal, and Students Union of India.

The gatherers took an oath saying "Godse who killed Gandhi", for which Sukumaran objected. This led to an argument when senior Marxist Communist Party leader G Ramakrishnan and those present also objected to the act of the Assistant Commissioner. The gatherers demanded action against him.

Similarly, when former minister S P Velumani and AIADMK MLAs staged a dharna at the District Collectorate in Coimbatore over the issue in the just-concluded urban local body election campaign, Sukumaran delayed in arrest despite the higher officials ordering the arrest of S P Velumani and others.

With election restrictions lifted currently, Assistant Commissioner Sukumaran Sathyamangalam was transferred to the post of Task Force. He is replaced by Syed Babu, who was the DSP of the Anti-Land Grabbing Unit in Theni district who has been appointed as Assistant Commissioner of Saibaba Colony.
