The Madurai Branch of Madras High Court has directed the school education department to form special squads to monitor government school teachers who handle private tuitions, YouTube channels to teach children online, questioning if they provide quality education to the poor and needy at the schools.
Coimbatore: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has directed the School Education Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu to monitor private tuitions handled by government school teachers.
The Madras High Court (Madurai Bench) has directed that the TN school education department has to crack down on the government school teachers across the state who are running tuition centers privately, and YouTube Channels with a view to earning revenue part-time. The HC has directed the department to form special committees to monitor and take necessary disciplinary action against those named.
The verdict came after Radha of Tanjore filed a case in the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court challenging the cancellation of her transfer request. Justice S.M. Subramaniam had issued this order and comments viz., the Government undoubtedly allocates the adequate amount to improve the quality of government schools and pay the salaries of their teachers and employees. But the judge also expressed the question of whether teachers were providing such quality education to students from poor and middle-class families.
The Justice has directed the Principal Secretary in School Education to constitute a special committee in every district to collect information, complaints, and documents relating to extra revenue-earning employment of government school teachers like part-time work, running tuition centers and taking tuition slots in their homes and departmental disciplinary action against the teachers concerned.
