The public of ward 82, 86 have stated that lack of corporation school in the area has been affecting the education of the students and alleged that despite petitions to the Collector, Corporation Commissioner, no action has been taken.
Coimbatore: The public of ward 82, 86 state that the education of the children is affected at wards 82, 86, because of the lack of corporation school in the area.
The public of wards 82, 86 have stated that lack of corporation school in the area has been affecting the education of the students and alleged that despite petitions to the Collector, Corporation Commissioner, no action has been taken in this regard. The locals stated that the Government Primary School can accommodate only 90 students, but 330 students are studying in this school. With only three classrooms available, the principal's office was converted into a classroom.
The school also lacks toilet facilities, with only 2 toilets. Boys and girls alleged that there is a lot of difficulty in using them.
There were only 100 children studying in the school before the pandemic but, post the period, people who have lost their livelihood due to corona are enrolling their children in this school. Additional to this, they stated that the flyover work connecting Ukkadam Athupalam is causing traffic jams making it difficult for the students who are going to school for higher education. They also alleged that lack of education nearby had led to them having to visit places like Kuniyamuthur, Oppankara Street.
They alleged that the Corporation has been not providing funds despite children wanting to study. The petition mentioned that the people living in the Slum Clearance Board of the Corporation in Ukkadam Pullukadu area also want their children to study. Despite this, no action had been taken till date despite the continued petitions to the three district collectors of Coimbatore to set up a school in the area.
“Since the students of the region are mostly economically ordinary families, they have to go to private schools for higher education or government higher and higher secondary schools outside. Children who want to go to schools do not get a lot of space in government schools.” one of the petitioners said.
Stating that the people living here are paying taxes to the government properly, but the Corporation and the Government of Coimbatore are turning a blind eye to the needs of the public. They lamented that the girls are forced into marriage as education has become impossible.
“We are confident that the new regime that has now been established will certainly show mercy on us.” another petitioner said.
