Coimbatore: The city crime branch police arrested a Kerala-based real estate businessman for embezzlement of 1.32-crores cash by pawning fake gold jewellery and are also on the lookout for 3 other gold appraisers.
Regi, (47) of Ernakulam, Kerala, was arrested by the crime branch police in Kerala on Sunday on charges of swindling 1,32,50,000 cash by pawning 4.07-kg of fake gold, along with two others at the Cheran Maanagar Branch of Indian Bank.
Based on a complaint by the Bank’s Zonal manager, the police arrested Regi, while, a search is on for Hemamalini of Gandhi Managar and Madan Kumar of Kalapatti.
Subsequently, the gold appraisers, Dharmalingam and Selvaraj, who certified the jewellery are also in hiding and the police are on the search for them as well.
The land documents submitted to obtain agricultural jewellery loans have also been found to be fake.
The police have intensified the search for the 4 accused who are hiding.
