Burglary and Murder Attempt: Four Men Booked Under Goondas Act in Coimbatore

Coimbatore City Police have booked four men under the Goondas Act in two separate cases involving an alleged murder attempt and a daytime house burglary. The action was taken against three accused in the E2 Peelamedu case and another accused arrested by the C4 Rathinapuri Police, as part of efforts to curb serious and repeat criminal activities in the city.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore City Police have invoked the Goondas Act against four men in two separate cases, involving an alleged attempt to murder a man and a daytime house burglary.

In the first case, A. Abdul Kalam (21), R. Karan (23) and R. Dhinadayalan (23) were arrested by the E2 Peelamedu Police following an alleged attempt to attack a man with sickles with an intention to murder him.

According to the police, the three, along with their associates, allegedly waylaid the man on July 30, 2026, attacked him with sickles and issued death threats.

Following the incident, the Peelamedu Police registered a case and arrested the accused before producing them before a court and securing judicial custody.

In a separate case, M. Nagendran (22), was arrested by the C4 Rathinapuri Police in connection with a daytime house burglary. According to the police, on July 31, 2026, he allegedly broke open the locked door of a house in the MGR Nagar area and stole cash, gold jewellery and silver articles.

The Rathinapuri Police arrested Nagendran and produced him before a court, following which he was remanded in judicial custody.

Based on the nature of the offences, detention proceedings under the Goondas Act were subsequently initiated in both the cases under the direction of Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Dr. N. Kannan, IPS, with the approval of the competent authority.
