Gang swindles money from couple selling fake gold bars in Kinathukadavu; special team nabs gang within hours

Based on a complaint lodged by a couple at the Kinathukadavu Police station of being cheated of ₹ 5-lakh cash by luring them into buying fake gold bars, the police special team launched a search operation and nabbed the gang within hours of the complaint being filed


Coimbatore: The Kinathukadavu police special team arrested the three-member gang who cheated a couple of ₹ 5-lakh by selling pseudo gold bars, on Thursday.

The couple Sheik Alauddin-Nesila lodged a complaint at the Kinathukadavu police station on Thursday stating they were cheated of ₹ 5-lakh cash by a gang of three with fake gold bars.

Reportedly, Sheik Alauddin of Mudalipalayam received a phone call on the 20th from an unknown caller stating he possessed 2-kg gold bars worth ₹ 15-lakhs, which he would sell to Sheik Alauddin for ₹ 10-lakhs. Lured by the offer, Sheik Alauddin along with his wife met the sellers at the New Bus stand at 9 pm as per the arrangements.

The couple paid ₹ 5-lakh cash and received the 2-kg gold bars. Upon testing the gold bars on Thursday, it was revealed that they are fake, gold-plated metal bars.

Based on their complaint and the orders of the district SP Selvanagarathinam, a special team led by Inspector Senthil Kumar, Sub- Inspector Arul Prakash, Chief Constables Vinod Sharma McKuri and Prabhu was formed. The special team, during patrol in Aliyar Pollachi road, caught hold of three men upon suspicion.

Investigations revealed that the gang was involved in swindling money from the couple. The accused are identified as Nizam alias Chinnababa of Pollachi Makinampatti, Hussain Ali of Suleswaranpatti and Krishnamurthy of Anaimalai.

The police subsequently seized ₹ 5-lakh cash that they possessed and were later booked and lodged in prison.
