According to reports, number of people applying for health insurance schemes across Tamil Nadu, including Coimbatore, has tripled

The insurance agents have stated that the public in Tamil Nadu have moved towards applying for medical insurance and the number has increased because of the pandemic.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore and other districts in Tamil Nadu has seen about three percent increase in the number of people getting a medical insurance.

The number of people applying for health insurance across Tamil Nadu, including Coimbatore, has tripled due to the increasing prevalence of corona and omicron virus. Agents working for the health insurance companies mentioned that only a few types of insurance schemes are popular with people in the south.

People from North India apply for a medical insurance scheme. Due to this, North India has the highest number of people benefiting from health insurance. However, the pandemic has turned the chart. People here in TN especially have started applying for medical insurance. The cost of treatment was so high that people started focusing on health insurance plans.

As the public faced financial trouble, they have started approaching medical insurance companies, leading to a three time increase in the purchase of schemes. 15 private health insurance companies are functioning in Coimbatore. Before the outbreak of corona infection in Tamil Nadu, an average of 2 or 3 applications per agent per day was received.

An agent gets up to 8 or 10 applications per day, currently. Accordingly, health insurance companies are also introducing various schemes for the benefit of the people. Though a large number of people apply for the health insurance scheme, northern states still stand atop with maximum beneficiaries in India.

As the number of people applying for health insurance in South India is increasing on a daily basis, people from various states including Tamil Nadu in south India may benefit from health insurance schemes in the near future.
