18-kg ganja reportedly meant for sale to college students confiscated, 3 arrested, in Coimbatore

The city police arrested three people who sneaked ganja with the aim of supplying it to college-goers and seized about 18-kg of the contraband


Coimbatore: The city police arrested three people in Ukkadam who sneaked ganja in view of supplying them to college-goers and seized about 18 kg of the contraband.

The police officers in Coimbatore during a vehicle search in Ukkadam junction Vincent road, Trichy, Sungam area caught hold of a speeding car. The search revealed that the travellers had in their possession a total of 18-kg ganja, which the police seized.

The accused identified as Abdul Samad (29) of Sugunapuram, Coimbatore, Vinod Kumar (32) of Theni, and Arun Kumar (21) of Kambam area of Theni. All three have been arrested.

The police sources stated that 'A section of college goers from other parts of the state and country stay in hostels and rented houses. Ganja is being smuggled for college goers and various others from Theni to Coimbatore.'

Inspector Saravanan, Sub Inspector Vivek, Special Sub-Inspector Veeramuthu, and Constable Rajendran conducted vehicle searches at the junction caught hold of the smugglers.

The investigation revealed that they planned to smuggle ganja from the Kambam to Coimbatore and sell it to several consumers, including students. The car used for smuggling ganja was also seized. The three prisoners appeared before the court and were jailed, police said.

The District Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore has warned of strict action against those involved in such illegal activities. The Superintendent has stated that the public shall contact the District Police Control Room through the number 94981-81212 or on WhatsApp Number 77081-00100 to inform about those involved in such illegal activities. The informants details shall be confidential, assured the SP.
