Coimbatore: The Hindu Munnani Chief Kadeswara Subramaniam has demanded that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) investigates the suicide case of Ariyalur student.
A grade 12 student from Ariyalur studying at theScared Hearts Higher Secondary School Thanjavur, killed herself. She stated that her school forced her to convert to Christianity. The incident created shock waves across the state after her death statement was released. Reportedly, the school headmistress tried to lure her parents into letting her convert promising to help the girl with higher education.
Upon rejection, the girl was made to clean toilets at the school and was not let home from the hostel, after which the girl attempted suicide and succumbed on the 19th. Addressing the incident, various parties condemned and sought the Tamil Nadu government to take necessary action against persons who are responsible for her death.
Kadeswara Subramaniam, the Hindu Munnani Chief stated that the suicide of the 17-year-old upon forceful conversion has come as a shock to the ‘Hindu Community’ and has devastated the hearers.He raised questions of suspicions after the police confined to arrest the hostel warden, Sagayameri, and declared that forced conversion was not responsible for the girl's death, while the parents and public say otherwise.
Subramaniam requested that the National Investigation Agency be summoned for interrogation and questioned why is no revolt from political parties or the media? He asked if there will be protests on complaints arising in Hindu schools. Kadeswara Subramaniam also questioned to why there was so much silence while everyone erupted in protest for the closure of a Coimbatore-based school for student suicide.
He said 'The police should immediately arrest both the nuns and the priest of the school who was involved in forced conversion. The National Commission for Child Welfare should directly inquire schools and colleges where such forced conversions happened.'
The Hindu Munnani will be organizing a protest gathering people across Tamil Nadu on Monday (tomorrow) to demand justice and the arrest of all those responsible for the girl's death. The party’s women wing will host a black flag demonstration on Tuesday and the Hindu Youth Wing will also stage a protest on Thursday condemning such forced conversions.
He urged that all Hindus participate in large numbers to defend their rights.
