Ahead of urban local polls, electoral roll and polling stations’ lists prepared in Coimbatore

The urban local body elections are scheduled to be held soon and the officers on election duty are in the process of gathering the final number of voters and the polling booths in the city.


Coimbatore: The urban local body elections are scheduled to be held soon and the officers on election duty, are in the process of gathering the data base of voters and the polling stations in the city.

With 1,216 polling stations in the Corporation, Coimbatore city has 230 polling stations in Municipalities and another 725 polling stations in Town Panchayats.

The Coimbatore district has 1 Corporation, 7 Municipalities, and 33 Town Panchayats. Date to conduct the urban local body elections for these local bodies will be announced soon. Meanwhile, the officers on election duty are overseeing the necessary arrangements.

The electoral rolls and polling stations for the local bodies are now being prepared. In the total 100 wards of the Coimbatore Corporation, as many as 1,216 polling stations are being set up to enable the public to cast their vote. A total of 7, 10,641 male voters, 7, 05,928 women voters, and 169 third gender voters are eligible to exercise their right to vote.

With the already existing 3 municipalities in Coimbatore viz., Valparai, Mettupalayam, and Pollachi, the Town Panchayats of Karumathampatti, Gudalur, Karamadai and Madukkarai have been upgraded to municipalities and orders have been issued. The number of municipalities in the district has increased to 7.

A total of 230 polling stations are being set up in these 7 municipalities. With a total of 1,88,183 voters, 92,00,056 male, 96,116 women voters and 11 third gender voters are eligible to vote.

There are currently 33 Town Panchayats in the district. A total of 725 polling stations are being set up in these Town Panchayats for the local body elections, including 135 male and female polling stations each, and 455 public polling stations. Out of the 5, 50,699 total voters, 2, 69,604 male, 2, 81,036 women, and 59 are under the third gender category are eligible to cast their vote.
