Forest officials continue to wait patiently for 4th consecutive day to lure leopard out of godown in city's Kuniyamuthur area

Cages have been placed at both gates of the godown in Kuniyamuthur, with meat tied to them as well as dogs outside the cage to lure the leopard into the cage.

Coimbatore: The Forest Department continues to wait patiently for the fourth consecutive day in Kuniyamuthur to trap the leopard that has sought shelter in a dilapidated godown in the area.

For the fourth day in a row, forest officials wait patiently in the hope that the leopard will walk into the cages placed outside the old warehouse where the predator has sought shelter in Kuniyamuthur. CCTV footage of the leopard moving around has been released early Thursday morning confirming its presence in the godown. The footage shows the leopard roaming around the godown in the early hours of Thursday morning, staring at the camera, approaching the cage and then turning back. Cages have been placed at both gates of the godown in Kuniyamuthur, with meat tied to them as well as dogs outside the cage to lure the leopard. The team is also constantly monitoring the leopard's activity through five cameras.

Forest officials speculate that the predator must have been chased away by a much more powerful leopard, and might actually be the leopard that was earlier trapped in a cage and released into the forest. They also opined that the leopard was likely to get injured if caught amidst objects in the godown if they tried to inject an anesthetic. Therefore, the officials are preferring to wait it out though it is the fourth day in trying to trap the straying leopard into the cage.
