Public laud seventh-grader on collection of antique coins and old currency notes in Pollachi

The student plans to hand over the coin collection to Udhayanidhi Stalin to be kept safely in the museum.

Coimbatore: The public in Pollachi lauded a seventh-grader for her collection of antique coins and old notes.

In a generation that is buried deep in devices due to online classes and an active online social life, along with gaming, Mridula who is a seventh-grader immerses herself in numismatics - collection of currency. Mridula, the daughter of Murugesan who is a photographer from Kandasamy Road in Pollachi has been pursuing the hobby since childhood much like her father and grandfather.

Mridula has collected coins that honour leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Pandit Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Ambedkar and important events that commemorated the 50th Independence Day and the World Tamil Conference.

She has also collected centenary coins of various leaders including Annathurai, coins issued to commemorate World Farmers' Day, Biodiversity Day, coins issued by the Reserve Bank on the 1000th-year old Tanjore Brihadeeswarar Temple, foreign and domestic currency notes.

"Students should be involved in creative activities and hobbies like collecting coins instead of engaging in online activities and gaming on mobiles. I am planning to hand over the entire coin collection to Udhayanidhi Stalin and will request for the coin collection to be preserved in the museum," opined Mridula.
