Banian manufacturers, trade unions in protest against yarn price hike in Tirupur

The cloth manufacturers, trade unions together have been demonstrating in Tirupur against the rising yarn price to gain the attention of the government, boycotting work for the second day

Tirupur: The cloth manufacturers, trade unions together have been demonstrating in Tirupur against the rising yarn price to gain the attention of the government, boycotting work for the second day near the Railway Station.

A demonstration was held in front of Tirupur railway station on Wednesday on behalf of Banian Manufacturers Associations to demand control of the increase in yarn prices.

15,000 banian companies and 5,000 pro-active companies participated in the strike, which began on Tuesday. On the second day today, all the societies came together in front of Tirupur railway station.

Due to cotton hoarding and yarn exports, artificial scarcity has been caused and the price of yarn has gone up to Rs 100 in the last 6 months. This has resulted in a sale of yarn prices above Rs 350-per kg. Banian manufacturing and exporters are facing heavy losses due to excessive yarn price rise, unable to take new orders or complete old orders.

Banian Manufacturers Associations in Tirupur and trade unions called for a 2-day strike to press for immediate restrictions on the increase in the price of yarn, ban on yarn exports, abolition of cotton import duty and ensuring that the Government of Tamil Nadu creates Tamil Nadu cotton corporation to procure cotton directly and ensure that cotton is available to spinning mills without intermediaries.

They have been boycotting production for the second day to attract the attention of the government.
