Coimbatore: The district administration has stated that 3,100 beds have been arranged and are in usable condition in rural areas as Covid-19 cases are on the rise in the city.

As many as 3,100 beds are kept in ready conditions in multiple rural pockets of Coimbatore after the cases reported were high, once again after the decrease in last September. Three thousand beds were ready and put on stand-by, in rural areas and as the cases subsided. Due to a slump in the caseload, the covid care centers set up in private halls and other such places were shut down. Again, with a spike in number of cases, these treatment centers in rural areas have started to function to treat patients.

A district administration official stated that “A 50 percent incidence is reported in rural areas currently and various measures are being taken to control the spread of corona. About 2,500 people are involved in screening for colds and fevers.”

Patients testing positive are treated at these centers and those highly vulnerable are sent to Coimbatore Government Hospital and ESI Hospital for treatment.

“About 3,100-bed facilities is provided in rural areas like Sulur, Thudiyalur, Madukkarai, Thondamuthur, Pollachi, Karamadai, SS Kulam, Anaimalai, Sultanpet, Annur, Kinathukadavu and Pollachi. Beds are in ready-to-use condition to face the 3rd wave and will continue to be operational.”

Coimbatore reported 2,042 cases in a single day on Monday and a total of 10,147 people are being treated for coronavirus.
