Sanitary workers in Coimbatore North Zone boycott work; delay in wage leads to strike

The sanitary workers of the ward no.41 in the North Zone went on a strike stating there is delay in paying their wages


Coimbatore: The delay in payment of wage for sanitary workers, leads to a strike in Coimbatore on Wednesday.



The sanitary workers under ward 41 of North Zone boycotted work on Wednesday, stating their hike in daily wage is not impeded.

The workers stated that they have been working in the forefront despite the pandemic, and the delay in paying their wages hugely affected their livelihood. They added, “The sanitary workers working for a daily wage in 100 wards are not paid and this has affected the lives of the workers.”



The strike was suspended after the Corporation Assistant Commissioner Mohana Sundari and Regional Officer Radha Krishnan ensured payment on Wednesday. The workers mentioned that the crowd dissolved upon the word given by the authorities.
