Coimbatore: The city corporation officers recovered corporation land encroached in the central zone worth a crore, along with the police force as the encroacher refused to vacate despite being issued a notice.

The Coimbatore Corporation, on Thursday, recovered 1.5-cent land, worth one crore in Karuppakounder Road near Corporation Middle School in Central Zone. An inspection of the old school buildings revealed that the site belonged to the school building.



The officers removed the shop in the land with the help of the police force, as the land encroacher refused to evacuate from the place, despite being issued a notice.



The occupied lands in the areas under Coimbatore Corporation are being recovered after intense inspections by the corporation authorities in the last few days. The officers issue notices to the encroachers at various places and are directing encroachers to vacate by themselves. The lands are being restored with the help of the police departments in areas where encroachers do not vacate.

Assistant Town Planning Officer Babu told reporters, “The 1.5-cent site which was occupied for more than 40 years has now been restored. The place is worth about one crore. Similarly, billboards placed at Sivananda Colony, NSR Road, and Brookbond Road in Coimbatore Central Region have also been removed. Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal Sunkara has warned that the encroacher will be booked if hoardings are placed in violation of the norms.”

Officer Babu further issued a warning stating such occupied lands, unauthorized hoardings, etc. will be removed and follow-up action will be taken.
