Coimbatore: The police officers who took bribes from motorcyclists in Mangarai Toll Plaza and the police constable who snatched yoga mat from a tailor have been transferred after interrogation.

The Police Constable who reportedly behaved harshly towards a tailor has been transferred after serious interrogations. The battalion officers who were involved in corruption by getting money through online payment app have also been transferred.

Adivasi Women Livelihood Centre is functioning at Anaikatti. The yoga mats that are made at this center with banana fiber and the mats are given to a tailor named Ayyappan of Chinna Thadagam to sew the sides of the yoga mat. Ayyappan who was carrying the sewed mats back to the livelihood center on his bike was stopped at the Mangarai Check Post and was requested to produce a bill.

The police officers took the yoga mat worth ₹.1,500 from Ayyappan and sent him away. Later, the Adivasi Women Livelihood Centre administrator Soundarrajan lodged a complaint with Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Selvangarathinam. The Superintendent of Police subsequently directed DSP Rajapandian of Periyanaickenpalayam to investigate the incident.

Investigations revealed that the mat was snatched by constable Muthusamy, who works at Thudiyalur police station, who was on duty at the check post. Further, the battalion guards on duty, Manikandan and Karthikeyan were found to have been involved in receiving bribes through Google Pay from passing motorists.

Subsequently, Muthusamy, who snatched the mat, is transferred to the armed forces. The Superintendent of Police has also directed that both Manikandan and Karthikeyan be transferred to the battalion.
