Ex-BJP secretary wants Bharathiar University VC to resign; Arrested in Coimbatore along with 100 other agitators

Coimbatore: The members of Hindu Munnani and BJP upstaged a protest condemning the Vice Chancellor of Bharathiar University and the ex-BJP Secretary urged the VC to resign.

The Hindu Munnani and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) joined for a protest in front of Bharathiar University on Marudhamalai Road in Coimbatore on Wednesday condemning the Vice Chancellor of Bharathiar University, Kaliraj. The agitators also condemned the assassination of the BJP functionary in Kerala.

Hindu Munnani state general secretary Kishore Kumar and former BJP national secretary H Raja participated in the protest and raised slogans demanding the VC to resign condemning the counselling meeting was held in the university in the name of Women’s rights.



Talking to the press, H. Raja stated that, “It is condemnable that a counselling meeting was held in the university campus in the name of women's rights and we condemn the VC’s comment stating he would have appeared in black for the meeting.”



He added that all the Hindu organisations will demonstrate and the governor will be requested to take action. H. Raja and over 100 people were arrested, who continued to protest.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor Kalidas stated, “A seminar on women's rights was held on behalf of the Social Work Department on the 17th in which Subha Veerapandian and Oviya were present. Discussions on women’s rights, and the efforts and works of Bharathiar and Periyar for women's rights were spoken of at the meeting and there were no comments inciting religious bigotry.



Nor did the speeches portray politics and organizations in bad light. There are no differences of opinion here. A discussion will be held with the teachers, event coordinators on the happenings of the event.
