Two arrested in Coimbatore for illegal online sale of lottery tickets; ₹.23 lakh cash, car and mobile phones seized from duo

Two men involved in the illegal sale of online lottery have been arrested after being caught on suspicion by patrolling officers on Podanur- Kurichi road.


Coimbatore: Two men who were involved in the illegal sale of online lottery have been arrested after being caught under suspicion by patrolling officers on Podanur-Kurichi road. The police are on a constant vigil to nab persons involved in the illegal sale of lottery tickets within the bounds of Coimbatore.

The city police seized ₹.23 lakhs, an Innova and three mobile phones from the two men during patrol. The duo who were found near the bus stop at Karupparayan Temple were questioned after patrolling officers in Podanur-Kurichi Division road suspected foul play.

Investigations revealed that Balasubramaniam of Nallampalayam owned a mobile phone shop in Gandhipuram and his aide, Pandiraj of Trichy were involved in the business of illegal online lottery sale of the three number lottery of Kerala, for five years, without getting caught by the police. Police officials found ₹.23 lakhs hoarded in the car, obtained through the lottery sale.

Pandiraj had joined Balasubramaniam in the illegal business a year and a half back. The police took Balasubramaniam and Pandiraj to the police station and conducted investigations. Inspector Natesan registered a case and seized ₹.23 lakhs in cash, an Innova car, and three mobile phones. Both were produced before a judge at court and jailed.
