Man arrested for selling toddy in Pollachi: Farmers besiege police station

Narayanasamy Naidu Farmers Association executives and farmers gathered in front of the Negamam police station demanding the immediate release of Navaneethakrishnan who had sold toddy. Since the police refused to release him the farmers engaged in a protest.



Coimbatore: Police arrested Navaneethakrishnan (47) who was selling toddy and confiscated 3-litters of toddy which was stored for sale. The incident sparked outrage in the area as farmers besieged a police station in Coimbatore district condemning the arrest of a toddy seller in Negamam, Pollachi.

Police received a tip off that toddy was being unloaded and sold in the Mulanur area near Negamam next to Pollachi. Subsequently, when the Negamam police went on patrol, it was confirmed that toddy was being unloaded and sold in Naicker Thottam.

Following this, the police arrested Navaneethakrishnan (47) who was selling toddy and confiscated 3-litters of toddy which was stored for sale.

Upon information, Narayanasamy Naidu Farmers Association executives and farmers gathered in front of the Negamam police station. They demanded the immediate release of Navaneethakrishnan who had sold toddy. Since the police refused to release him the farmers engaged in a protest. Later, Negamam Police Inspector Saravana Perumal arrived at the spot and held talks with the farmers following which they left.
